Who is St. Jude? St. Jude Thaddaeus was a brother of St. James the Less, and a relative of Jesus as his mother Mary, was the Blessed Mother’s cousin. He was one of the 12 Apostles chosen by Jesus to spread the work of the Gospel. During the 18th Century, he became known as the patron saint of desperate or lost causes. St. Jude was born in the first century AD in Galilee, Israel and according to tradition, he suffered martyrdom in about 65 AD in Beirut. His name, ‘Jude’ actually means ‘the giver of joy’, while his last name, ‘Thaddeus’, means ‘kind, amiable.’
